SHOCKING ACCIDENT AT THE CROIXELLES.

Mill with a-load of heavy logs, and it is thought that m applying the brake- to the truck ho slip■ned and fell and on o of the wheels passIng over his left leg -between the ankle and tho knee., leaving the foot hanging %y a shred of skin. No one witnessed th o accident, but the cries of the unfortunate man wor«i heard ay his mates who were working somo distance away, and they immediately went to his (assistance. First aid was rendered and ho was made is comfortable as •circumstances permitted. In response to a telephone message, Dr. Johnston at once- proceeded to the 'CroixollßS in Mr. E. V. Johnson's oil launch, but a strong nor'--.vest wind ■with a heavy sea was encountered, with the result that the journey to the Oroix■elles occupied over four hours. Those on board tho launch had a very trying time, and had it not bae.ii for the urgen--cy of the case would have returned to Nelson. Another launch which started for the Croixelles earlier in tho day was forced to turn back owing to the heavy sea running. , . . Dr. Johnston attended to the injured man, who had never lost consciousness, and arrangements were made to bring him to the Nelson Hospital. However, th-e wßather bring; still bad outside, it war, decided to dofer the journey until yesterday 'morning. Duffin passed a fairly good night, and just after daylight he was taken to tho launch, when it"was noticed that he showed signs of ■collapse. Ho was at once taken back to his whare where restoratives wore appHed. without avail,_ the unfortunate man gradually sinking and passing away a few minutes after seven o'clock. It is not known whether deceased had ■any relatives in the Dominion.

The oil launch returned with Dr. Johnston yesterday morning, when a strong south-castor was met with, the soa-igoing qualities of the littlo craft, and the. seamanship of tho owner, Mr. Johnson being again tested to the utmost.
