OUR LOCAL INDUSTRIES.

In the afternoon, after inspecting tholocal railway station, the Minister visited Kirkpatriek's jam factory, over which lie was conducted by the manager Mr C. Milner. Tho Hon Mr Lauronson stated that although he had always recognised the splendid qualities nf thearticles manufactured at the "X" factory, he had no idea that it was so well equipped, so. extensive, or worked in such a systematic manner. Tho-Minis-ter then proceeded to tho factory of Griffin and Sons, Limited, in Alton street, where ho was shown through the various departments by Mv George Griffin, the manager. Tho Hon Mr Laurenson displayed great interest in tlio plant and up-to-dato machinery, and on leaving-expressed himself as very ploasod with tlio excellence of the manufactures, the cleanliness of tho factory and the pleasant conditions under which the • employees worked.
