Countess De-manin,, in the blackmail case, .whilst being cross-examined^ said that Dobbie had several times asked her to marry him. O'Connor told her that he had written three letters, but did not tell her they were an uymous; She guessed they attacked Dobbie because O'Connor said he had written what he knew about Dobbie. When Dobbie reached Australia he asked her to go there with a maid, horses and dogs. They could marry quickly, "before anyone else had a chance."- Dobbie asked her to marry him while he was engaged to Mrs Williams, one of, her friends.
