Tho person who thoughtlessly pours benzine or petrol down the sink, be it but the drainings of a tin of the dregs from a motor-car, little imagines how he is endangering the lives of some of his fellow-citizens. The smallest quantity of these volatile spirits in conjunction with the natural gases existent in the sewers form the elements for a dangerous explosion. Quite recently at Wow i sham, London twelve s ewe mien wore seriously burned, and only escaped with their lives, through an explosion eau&od by these spirits. The Drainage Board's maintenance foreman has recently reported the presence of benzine in several of the Board's sewers, and of some narrow escapes to the mainten-

A remarkable accident occurred in Brisbane last week. A pony attached to a sulky containing a young man and woman shied and .swerved in front of a moving tramcar. Both occupants

Tho animal remained haraoesed to the dogcart, and the greatest excitement prevailed amongst tho large crowd of spectators as the tram sped on, pushing tho dog-cart in front end dragging the pony -underneath it.' After dragging tho pony along for fully fifty yards the car stopped and the animal got up, apparently uninjured. 'The sulky was smashed, but tho occupaints received only rcry slight injuries.
