South American beef is unchanged. Chilled fores. 3*d, hinds sd. London, May 5. Tho wool Bales closed # with a large attendance, and competition keen. Coarse crossbreds Avere very keenly competed for at average January rates. Fino medium crossbreds we're five* to ten per : cent cheaper. '. Scoured slipes .showed a five per ce'ns advance. All the Merinos closed strong at five per cent deerer. Lambs' wool was in good supply, and Merinos advanced five per cent, and crossbreds maintained the best January The number catalogued was 269,387 bales, and those sold: Home, 141,000 bales ; for the Continent, 100,000 bales ; for tho United States, 12,000 bales. The number of bales held over is 10,250. ■ . For Moawhango brand the. top price was ll*d, average 9|d; Hauini, lOd, and BJd; Toko, 9d, and 8 3-Bd.
