Wellington, April 1. Tho High Commissioner's cable of 30th March quotations unless otherwise specified, being average market prices on spot, is as follows: General.—The strike is subsiding. There is a proposition to settle the strikei by arbitration. Mutton.—The market is firm with more demand for light weight; .Canterbury not quoted, average price (nominally) 4 3-8 d; North Island 3 : Vd to 4-Jd. Lamb.—The market is firm, with a good demand for all lamb; Canterbury s: }d; other than Canterbury 5 3-Bd. 'Beef.—The1 market is firm with a limited supply; New Zealand hinds 4Jd; New Zealand fores 3Jd. Butter.—The market is slightly weaker, with less demand, buyers being cautious. The weather continues favourable for Home production. Average ■nrico for the week for choicest New Zealand butter is 125s j.Danish 132s| Australian 121s j Argentine 121s ; Siberian 1235. Cheese.—The market is quiet and prices arc slightly weaker. The average price for the week for fiaest New Zealand cheese is 745. Hemp.—The market is about the same. On spot New Zealand.good to fair £21 10s," New Zealand fair grade £20; fair current Manila, £21 10s. Forward shipment, Npiw Zealand good to fair £21 15s, New Zealand fair grade £20 ss; fair current Manila £21 los. The output from Manila for the. week was 29,000 bales. Hops.—The market remains firm at the last quotation; English £13; Californian £12. There is a general active demand.
