SOCIALIST'S HEAVY PENALTY

Twenty youths who were charged with failing to attend compulsory training under the Defence Act, raised the point that proceedings could not bo taken until the expiration of the statutory year. The Magistrate upheld the contention and dismissed the informations. Harry Holland, a Socialist leader, was then charged with preventing his son from rendering personal service. The Magistrate considered the offence a. serious one, and fined him £100.
