THE VOTING IN WALES.
SOUTH FAVOURS RESUMPTION
COLLAPSE OF THE STRIKE IN
WARWICKSHIRE
SYNDICALISM AND SOCIALISM
(Received April 1, 10.35 p.m.)
London, April 1
Fifty-nine- collieries in South Wales vot-ed two to one in favour of resuming work. The North Wales miners are overwhelmingly in favour, and those of Cumberland against resumption. Rotheram is solidly against except at full ■ schedule rates. • The strike in Warwickshire has collapsed, and 10,000 men are resuming work as are also a number at Forest of Dean. Mr Keir Hardie, speaking at Bradford, said there was no essential difference between syndicalism and socialism. Both desired to overthrow the present form of society. One lesson of the strike was that the commercial classes were realising that the mines and railways must become State property. ■ Mr Victor Grayson, speaking at Wigan, said the miners were unable, to expect substantial economic results from the present strike, but they had taught statesmen that the working classes mattered. The Government had deceived themi in the Bill, which was cunningly conceived and drafted, clever Btateßmen collaborating with'rich capitalists. Mr Philip Snowden, M.P., speakirg at Oldham, said the concession the miners had wrung from the Government was full of illimitable possibilities. Tf the right of tho miner to have a minimum wage was guaranteed by law every worker was entitled to a similar concession. . "The Times" states that the iosse's of wages through the strike total £11,870,000.
