NEWS OF THE DAY.

A very successful opening run was held on Saturday last by the newly formed Nelson District Motor Cycling Club. Twenty-five membors assembled for the start, and. after facing tho photographer, proceeded country-wards, via Trafagar street, and the Rocks road. Despite the cloud of dust raised, a very enjoyable/ spin -was made to Redwood's Valley, where a few returned, the majority proceeding to Motueka. The Moutere. Hills, freshly metalled in placets, proved a good ...test for machines and riders, but all except on j safely negotiated them, the finest performance being put up by Mr. R. Dodson. who, on a Moto Reve light-weight, made a non-stop run over some very awkward patches of metal and dust. At Upper Moutere a halt was made to allow all the riders to assemble, and to welcome several Motueka members of the Club, who had comer out to meet the visitors. The riders, twenjty in, number, then preceded in two divisions to Motueka, arriving at 5.30, well covered with dust, but quite satisfied that they had had an enjoyable spin. Only three punctures were registered on the run, and there, was an'entire absence of ■engine troubles. '"^Tbe* members of tho Club speak highly of the treatment accorded to them at Motueka. They were comfortably 'looked after at the Post Office Hotel s and those who remainod over Sunday received many invitations to visit orchards4—invitations t'h<sy were not slow in accepting.
