INTER-CLUB SWWIMMING CARNIVAL.

The first of the inter-clujj shimming . contests between the Sydney and theWaitemata clubs was decided to-mghS at the Albert street baths. .Hundreds . of spectators had to be turned away, ' the- building being full. The swim-; ming was of high class, and the pro- ; gramme, which included a number of I handicap events, provided excellent: finishes. In the 440 yards scratch iiiter-club race M. E. Champioii lowered his New Zealand, lecord from Sniin 54 3-sseeij to umin -ISsecs. This event was won by Champion (WaitcJii'atii) with Wilson (Waitemata) second three" yards away, and L. Bordman (Sydney) third.- Sydney won tile 540 yards relay race. There were tho only two inter-club scratch' races. The others will be decided at twrt n-ore carnivals during the week. Miss | Durack, the Australian lady chain- j pioii, won the, ladies' handicap of 36 yards in 20 -l-usecs.
