On Friday last the Wakcfield Harmonic Roriety rendered the cantata "The Haymakers" i/i tho public hall, which w;is well filled for tb-.1 -nccaf,iou, and the "Midionce throughou' manifesi-id tho .keenest appreciation of the pc-iforniauce. .\'r ICdridge, the conductor,'was in excellent form, and the pianist, Miss Palmer, carried out her part in first-class style. About forty voices r.ssisted in the performance1, and tho audience showed ;i ! hearty appreciation of the various j numbers. At the conclusion Dr. Hudson moved a- hearty vote of thanks to Mr Edridge, Miss Palmer, and the members of the Society for the musical treat they li'id afforded to the residents of Tapawera and the surrounding districts. worth very kindly lent her piano for the occasion, and this favour was much appreciated. The hail was lent free of charge, as the proceeds of tho entertainment, after paying expenses, are'to go towards the building of tho. new church at Tadmor. Ladies of Tapavvcra very kindly provided tho visitors with tea on their arrival, and also coffee after the concert. The courteous and popular manager of railways for the Nelson district, Mr Edwards, kindly delayed the train till after the concert, and also ran it bsck to Wakrfield. The principal solos and duets were entrusted to Misses Ada Palmer, Hoult, Thomas, Lpmmas and Fearless; Mesdames Lightband and C. Mead and Messrs B.Htey, Edwards, C. Mead, L. Hoult. P. Palmer ,md W. A. Lightbaud, and the well-merited applause which greeted the various items showed that their efforts were much appreciated. The net financial result will add a little over t'S to the church building fund.
