SHIPPING AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT.
INCREASED WAGES FOR THE MEN. Wellington, Jan 16. After a conference lasting five tlsys '..between representatives of "the watersi do workers' unions and omplnyors throughout New Zealand, a working ncroeincnt was reached this evening". Practically all the shipping companies .and about 4000 men are concerned. Full details have not yet been fixed but these present no difficulties. Ti. • basis of agreement is that the wages aro increased 2d per hour all joinri on the existing vute-o for ordinary j'ik! overtime wprk. In some specified cases such as the handling of frozen meat, the increase agreed to is 3d an hour. The agreement applies to practically all the ports in the Dominion, rpen and tidal.
