Tiie manager of the May Queen mine in his report to the directors regarding the recent fatality states:— The other five men are getting all right. Too much praise cannot bo given to Messrs. Crowley, James, Alexander, and Herivol for their efforts in rescuing their mates. At present I am unable to give any causo for the sudden inrush of gas.

LITTLE CHILD DROWNED

Auckland, Jan. 15.

While playing on the river bank at Huntly to-day, Gavin McVie, aged two years and eight months, fell over the bank and wag drowned. Deceased's father is an engine driver afc Ralph's coal mine.
