ACCOUNTANCY.

STUDENTS' SOCIETY FORMED,

A meeting was held last evening at the Chamber of Commerce rooms to discuss the advisability of forming an Accountant Students' Society in Nelson. There was a good attendance, showing keen interest in the proposal. Mr C Milnor explained that the meeting was called by the Nelson branch of tlve Accountants' Society, at the request of the New Zealand Council.

Mr. W. S. Hampson was voted to the chair, and fully explained the objects and scope of the society and mentioned that any person taking an interest in accountancy was eligible as a member. Briefly, the objects of the society were—the mutual help and benefit of its members by means of lectures, essays, and discussions upon subjects enhanced by the examinations of recognised accountancy bodies approved by the committee, and whatever in tlio opinion of the committee was calculated to attain the proposed end. Tlio chairman pointed out the valuable assistance the proposed society would bo to all interested in accountancy and made several valuable suggestions for the conduct of the society. Mr. Milner mentioned that he had obtained from the Wellington Accountant Students' Society copies of their last syllabus, and from these lie gave the meeting an outline of the advantages of such a society in Nelson. It was decided to establish o Nelson Accountant Students' Society, and the meeting cveetod the following officers subject to their consenting to act:— President, Mr. T. A. R. Field; Vice Presidents, Messrs H. V. Gully, W. S. Hampson. H. R, Duncan, ' Cecil Kino;, and H L. Fowler; Committee, Messrs B. Neale, G. Richmond, H Cracknall, E. H. Thomson H Anstice, and J. Griffin, junr; Secretary and treasurer, Mr C. Milner. It is evident the Society will be well supported, and it is hoped to have an enjoyable, and profitable winter session A vote or thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
