AGRICULTURE IN AUSTRALIA.

SCOTTISH COMMISSIONERS' VIEWS. [Pbess "Association—Coptbiqht.] . (Received May 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 13. # The Scottish Agricultural Commissioners who recently visited Australia, declare that the dependence upon single men is one of the most undesirable features of Australian country life. The demand for married but childless couples is another objectionable phase. They speak highly of the agricultural high schools, but urge the need of better co-ordination of scientific research work and the want of method in placing.new comers on tlio land and helping them to get a proper start. On the whole Australia is a'good dairymen's country. The Commissioners conclude by saying it is curious how few wealthy industrial bodies in Australia have done anything towards agricultural education. It appears from the newspapers that almost nobody has sufficient p.ublic spirit to assist the development of the Country by monetary gifts
