The report of the Monowai's narrow escape from going ashore on tlie trip from Gisborne to Napier is unfounded. The weather was very thick when the vessel entered the bay, and the course was steered for the roadstead anchorage, the practice always followed in heavy weather, instead of making for the breakwater harbour.
