BRITISH POLITICS.

APPOINTMENTS TO THE BENCH,

[Press Association —Copybight.]

London, May 1

In the House of Commons Mr Asquith, referring to complaints by Liberals regarding the appointment of a preponderance of Unionist magistrates in certain localities, stated that Lord Loreburn, Lord Chancellor, had written declaring that the appointments belonged exclusively to his office, and added that so long as he was Chancellor he would adhere to the views he expressed before the Royal Commission.

Mr Asquith considered that until the country had a better opportunity of judging the working of tho advisory committees it would be premature to give a day to discuss the questio-n.

Mr Asquith announced that Mr Lloyd George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, would introduce the Insurance and Invalidity Bill on Thursday.
