Mrs Wilesmith was a prominent Christian Scientist and Salvation Army worker of Worcester. With her son and her bailiff she was charged with terribly ill-treating a servant girl aged 13. who alleged that thoy mercilessly beat her and afterwards salted her wounds. She has 34 permanent scars, many four inches long. The girl came from an orphanage when seven years old and was made a household drudge.
