THE REFERENDA FIGURES.

CHARGES AGAINST RETURNING

OFFICERS

[Press Association —Copyright.]

Sydney, May 1

The referenda figures are still incomplete, though the small balance to come in cannot affect the result. Approximately out of a vote of 1,000,01)0 the referenda was defeated by 250,000.

Mr Hughes, Acting Federal Premier, is not satisfied with the result, and alleges that the returning officers in some of the booths recommended electors to vote "No." Investigations are being made into this and other allegations. Mr Hughes also states that the referenda proposals will be submitted at the general election in 1913, and claims that on the decision of the minority which had chosen to vote the Commonwealth was still unable to legislate with regard to industrial powers and monopolies.
