SAD FATALITY AT TAHUNA.

DEATH OF MR. CHARLIES LAMB. It was reported on Sunday night that Mr. Charles Lamb, a well kiw.wi resident of Nelson, was missing, and yesterday afternoon his body was found on the beach at Tahuna y near the Blind Channel. It appears, from enquiries made, that Mr. Lamb met with an accident while cycling along the Rocks road on Sunday, afternoon. His machine? skidded, and he was thrown over the stone breastwork on to the rocks below, sustaining several scalp wounds and a bruised shoulder. A superficial examination yesterday indicated cerebral hemorrhage. His bicycle was also damaged. The injuries to Mr. Lamb's head were attended to by a passer by, and he appeared to be recovering, although of course, suffering from shock, he- being a heavy man, aim the distance- from the surface ot w road to the beach being some eight or nine feet. Mr Lamb was sufficiently recovered to arrange for his bieyclo to be taken to a cycle dealer's m town for repairs, and this was done He was seen walking on the sand hills at Tahuna later in the afternoon by several persons, with whom ho passed the time of day, and nothing Out of the ordinary was noticed. About 5 o'clock he waved his hand to three acquaintances who wer* returning from the Blind Channel, and thiß is probably the last time he was seen alive. As deceased had not returned home a search was made along the beach at Tahuna yesterday with the result stated. Tlie body when found was fully dressed and his watch, which was in his waistcoat pocket had stopped at 5.15, thus indicating that he met his death at that hour. If tlie circumstances detailed above are correct it would appear that the deceased, after apparently recovering from, the shock of his accident, wandered about for some time in a semi-dazed condition, and then collapsed on the beach,, and was caught by the incoming tide and drowned. An inquest will be held at the Court House this morning at 10 o'clock. . . , The late Mi-. LamtUiad been in the employ of Messrs Everest Bf<i.s.,. of this city, in charge of the tailoring department for. the past ten years, and only recently severed his connection with the firm in order to start business on his own account in Wanganui. Prior to that he was in the employ of Messrs Kirkcaldio and Stains, Ltd., Wellington, having come from Sydney to join that firm. While in Nelson he made many friends, and took an active interest in several local organisations. He was a Past Master of the Southern Star Lodge of Free : mason, an e-x-Presidont of th© Maitai Bowling Club, and an ex-President of tho City Club. Only last week he was farewelled by these bodies and_ was the recipient of several presentations, the last, on Saturday^ afternoon, being made by the> Maitai Bowling Club. He was a genial, good-hearted nian, and deservedly popular, and tho news of his untimely end will come as a great shock to many. He had made all arrangements to leave for Wanganui, and had intended leaving by this morning's stdamei' for Wellington. Deceased leaves, a widow and three sons, with whom the deepest sympathy will be felt in their bereavement. The eldest son is now in Sydney, and intended joining his father in business in Wanganui, tho second son is in tho post office at Nelson, and the youngest is learning sheep farming. The search for the bodies of the little girls Wilson, who were drowned in tho Blind Channel on Easter Monday, has now been abandoned. On Sunday the beaches of the Rabbit Island were searched thoroughly, but no traces of the. bodies were found. The Motuoka river was dragged yesterday without result for the body of Mr. Felix Fry, of the firm of Fry Bros, coach proprietors, who it is feared was drowned while crossing a ford on Friday afternoon last on horseback.
