ANNUAL FIELD DAY. President, Mr C. H. Ching; vice-pre-sident, Mr H. Palmer; committee, Messrs A. Lines, 11. Palmer, Vv. Still, J. It. Eden, W. Reay, W. Martin, W. Hill, E. R. Andrew, R. iierr, N. Win, G. S. Mead, A. Price, G. E. Ohisnall, W. Hagen, Jas Palmer, G. Irvine, E. button, C. Price, C. Silcock, J. AYadsworth, and G. fciilcock junr., secretary. The second annual field day of the Bright-water Farmers 'Association was hekl on Saturday on Mr Max's farm, Jirightwater. Fine weather prevailed, and there was a fair attendance soon alter the ploughing events opened the stream of visitors increasing as the day advanced, there being in the aitemoon upwards of 500 persons present. The ground for the carnival was the best available, its faults being that it was rather too dry and too lumpy to get a perfect furrow, especially at one end. It was hoped that the de- | luge of rain on tho previous day would j have produced an ideal condition of the ground, but the rain had not penetrated far enough. The entries for the ploughing were more numerous than last year, but there was a decrease in the entries for tho dog trials. The judges of the ploughing were long in completing their task. Taken as a whole the ploughing was creditable, much of it exceedingly good. H. Schwass, who took first prize in the first single furrow competition, and the special prize for the best crown, would not be easily beaten in any ploughing match. Mr E. Andrew's ploughed with a pair of fino bullocks (which was a novelty in a ploughing competition), and handled them very skilfully. F. Cummings' dog Cloud was easily first in tho sheep dog trials, and also took tho special prize given for tho dog under best command. There was a host of competitors in some of tho post entry events. The most popular was the sheaf throwing competition, tho first prize ultimately going to H. Andrews, who threw the sheaf of straw (not a light one) over the bar at a height of 22 feet. Tilting in the ring on horseback also found many competitors, and like the sheaf throwing, greatly interested tho crowd. The first prize went to J. Hart. Tho anticipations for the gressv pig event were disappointed. The wild pig, although captured only on the previous day, did not run at any great pace, and the hunt was over in about five minutes.
