For the convenience of candidates ant] nominators the Town Clerk will bo at his office from noon till one o'clock to-morrow (Tuesday). Nominations for Mayor, City Councillors, and Harbour Board members close at noon on Wednesday. Owing to the holidays the monthly subscription meeting of the Permanent Building Society has been postponed for a week and will be hold on the 24th and 25th insts. Nominations are called for three members of the Suburban North Eoad Board. Messrs \V. H. Alborough, John Corder and Arthur Dodson, the members who retire by cffluxion of time are eligible for re-election. Sir T. Pettit, the Mayor, will address meetings of municipal electors during the coming week, at the places and times announced in an advertisement in this issue. The Auckland "Herald" state: "An excellent reproduction of the Auckland Art Gallery picture "In Time of Peril," by E. Blair Leighton, lias lw>cn painted by Mrs Burcher, a well known local artist. After 12 months' work Mrs Butcher is now putting the finishing touches upon her picture, and has succeeded in producing such a faithful replica that it is difficult to distinguish it from the original. The prncipal features of the famous English artist's work —the light and shades, tho glorious colouring, the straggling patches of given growth on the f.iini monastery walls, the expression in the features of the monk, and of the occupants of the boat, and tho miscellaneous assortment of household treasure —have all been reproduced with en exactness which commands admiration. Mrs. Burcher has acted under advice from Mr Leighton himself, both as to the materials used and the methods of execution. Ramsay Mac Donald will proside. Mr. Keir Hardie, in conversation with the correspondent of the "News," said Mr. Fisher was a district secretary of the Ayrshire Miners' Union at the time Mr. Hardio was general secretary. "In 1879," added Mr Hardio, "we had a trado dispute, and Mr. Fisher was blacklisted—that is, he was among a number of men whom it was resolved not to employ again. He emigrated to Australia, and to-day he is Premier of the Australian Commonwealth." The Ayrshire miners have invited Mr. Andrew Fisher to a banquet while lie is in the Old Country. Messrs.
