MURCHISON

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Last week, while sowing grass seed out at the Maruia, Mr. C. Downie, senr., had the misfortune to fall over a log and break two of his ribs. On iiis arrival at Murchison he received medical attention from Dr. Warneford and is now doing well. While harnessing the horses at the Grassy Stables last Friday, Mr. H. Newman got a nasty kick on the legs from a young horse. Fortunately, no bones were broken and although badly bruised he was able to make the leturu trip to Kohatu. Mr Thos. Newman is driving the Kohatu-Murchison coach at present, as it will probably be three or four weeks before Mr. H. Newman properly recovers.

On Saturday a team of cricketers from Longford went to Bracburn to play a friendly game with the Braeburn Club. Two innings were played by both sides, the game resulting hi a win for Braeburn by 4 runs.

A tennis match between the Murchison Rival Club and tiic Waitohi (Six-Mile) Club was played at Murchison on Saturday, the Rivals winning easily.

On Saturday night the Rival tennis club held their annual dance. As is usual, there was a good attendance, and a pleasant evening was spent. The arrangements for the A .and P. show are rapidly being made An energetic committee are at work getting the ground ready and making all necessary preparations. Should the weather continue fine, there is every reason to believe that the show will a success. Quito a number of visitors are expected. Among the visitors there will be a shooting team from the Tad.mor Defence Rifle Club, who will be present at the show on Friday, and who will fire a friendly match on Saturday with the local club.
