SOUTHLAND V. RANGITIKEI

The cricket match between Southland and Rangitikei for possession of the Hawke Cup concluded to-day, and resulted in a win for Southland. Rangitikei, who only scored 74 in the first innings to their opponent's 345, played a fine uphill game, and the second innings closed with a total of 351, to which G. MarshaH (not out) contributed 166, G. F. Hill 53, and B. Signall 38. Southland in the second innings scorfld the runs necessary to win with the loss of two wickets, the not outs, A. V. Poole and D. C. Hamilton, scoring respectively 40 and 28, the total for the two wickets being 84.
