Further heavy rain has fallen, and some of the lowlying suburbs aro. flooded. Many basements in the city and suburbs had to bo pumped out. Extensive damage has been done, and the Flemington and Williamstowii racecourses. ar« flooded.

A storm in the Mt Taylor district devastated a large area of forest country.
