STOKE.

The monthly meeting of the Stoke Road Board was held on Saturday last. Present: Messrs W. Cu-lemai (chairman), T. B. Chisnall, J. Best. J. E. Bartlett and A. P. Allport.

Thci Overseer reported that Messrs Allport and Chisnall had accompaniet him on a visit of inspection to tlu drain through Mr Bushby's property Stoke. A 12-inch pipe would take of the water, and they recomme.ndec that the gravel be 'removed from the stream and placed on the road loading tn- the canning works. The formatioi on Wells' road was being proceedec with, and would take about two day: with horse and dray to finish it. Repairs to Quara.ntint road had been completed, Mr Orsmar giving a clay with a two-horse team Willow bridge had also been repaired Repairs to stone wall, Rocks road (Aniseed Valley) had been complritec and culvert lengthened, while watertables had also been cleared out. Tlu culvert on S. Eden's road, Appleby had been renewed, but the ditel through the paddock had not beei cleaned out. Unless this was done the water would stagnate on the uppeo side. Ruts had been raked in oi Bell's road. The report was adopted A letter was read from Miss 11. Tal hot, acknowledging tho Board's sympathy in her recent bereavement.

Mr F. A. Bamford, secretary of tin Taliuna Progressive Association, wrot< asking that the Board contribute £i towards thn cost of laying drain pipe; in open ditch at tlie end of Murata street.—Resolved (Allport—Bartlett that as the road is within the juris diction of the Waimea County Councij the Board could not legally spem moiiev on the* road.

Mr Bamford also wrote asking tin Board to put. "blinding" on golf road —Resolved (Coleman—Allport) thai the Board has no funds to expend oi this road at the present time, alsr that the Board has not yet taken ovn the road.
