MOTUEKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho usual monthly meeting was hold on Tuesday evening. Present, his l%ship.the Mayor (Mr F. W. Thorp) in tho chair, and Crs Ryder, Sathcrley, Simpson, Grooby, Staples and 11. Fry.

Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £122 7s lOd. The sum of £1 8s lid was also passed for payment in connection with the Domain. .Tlie Maytir suggested that the. Co a iicil snould consider the question of acquiring power to dispose of the present recreation ground. If a sale was effected the proceeds should be set aside and the money would be immediately available in the event of a suitable section of ground coining into the market. Most of the councillors supported the. idea, and".an.the Hon R. McKenzie's next visit to Motueka he will be interviewed on the matter.

Correspondence was received as follows : From the Hon R. McKenzie) re the grant for the Whakarewa protective, works, stating that the matter would receive consideration when thf estimates were, being framed. The Overseer in his report stated that the water table in High stree* had been cleaned out and tho fence or tho beach road repaired. The largr loose stones on several of the .street? had becsi broken. During the present month the drains would be cleaned ouf .and tarring done where practicable Most of the ratepayers had complice 1 with theii- notices re removal of noxious weeds.

It was resolved that a special meeting be held on Tuesday, 14th inst. fo? the purpose of revising the roll of electors.

It was also resolved that the loan o( tho road grader be secured as. soon as possible. Applications for the position of caretaker of the gas plant, and lamplight <v, were opened. There were five applicants, and Mr G. W. Jenkins war appointed, the salary to be £48 pe' annum.

Tenders were opened for tlie work i) Atkins street, as follows: S. Fry £17 10s; F. Hawken £7 10s (accepted). It was resolved that the Mayor an.' Town Clerk sign the agreement bp tween the school trustees ancl the Council, in regard to the resumption of land for street widoning purposes.
