WAKATU MOUNTED RIFLES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Wakatu Mounted Rifles went into camp on the 4th of February on Mr G. Macnuahon's property at Tapawera, and broke up on February 11th. Tlie weather was perfect for camping, and thct men were kept busy. Two or thre clays were devoted to s'kirmisbinoon Spooner's Range and on tlie hills in the vicinity "6f tho camp. A lecture was given by Surgeon-Major Hudson on nrst aid to the wounded, and one was also given by Major Boyd Wilson on they use of mounted rifles 'as an arm for scouting and screening in time of war. There were over forty men in camp. The following arc- the results of the sports held in connection with the camp. Them were fair iields in all events:— Six Furlong Flat Scratch Race: Lieut. Forsyth's Vixen (Trooper S. Wilkinson), 1; Lieut. Rutherford's Acorn (Trooper L. Thomas), 2; Trooper R. Ha.nnen's Violet (Trooper X Paid), 3. Won easily by threw le.ngths. One Mile Trot Scratch Race : Trooper L. Thomas's Daisy (owner), 1; Corporal A. Steer's Myrtle (owner), 2; Corpora] G. Giggs' Kate (K. Pahl), Tug-of-War on Horseback: No. 1 troop v. No. 2 troop. A draw. 100 Yards Foot: Trooper F. Biggs, 1; Corporal G. Biggs, 2; Corporal A. Steer, 3. A good race. Led Fours (0113 man leads four horsas): Trooper J. Clougher, 1; Trooper J. Lines, 2. Six Furlongs Hurdle Race 'four flights): Trooper R. Hannen's Violet, 1; Corporal G. Biggs' Kate, 2; Trooper J. Cl'O'Ugher's Lady Pompey, 3. 100 Yards Recruit Race : Trooper K. Pahl, 1; Trooper, R. R.
