[United Pbebs Association.] Wellington, Aiigust 22. The Parliamentary committee of the New Zealand Employers' Federation met to-day. The position that arose in Auckland recently in connection with the byo-etectjon for the Auckland East seat,- whereby a portion of the shops of the city. ..were compelled to close, and others were allowed to remain open, was considered. : Repre-sen-tations are to-be made; to the Government requesting. that in case of • bye-elections or the second ballot seci tron 123 of the Act be amended to f provide that shops should not be res quired to close on the day on which • auch elections are held, unless the • elections are held on the weekly half i holiday. - 1 • ■■' > On the suggestion from the Otago s Employers' Association the affiliated - bodies are to be advised to petition 1 Parliament against legislation over- - riding or interfering with the Arbrfc- - ration Court awards. 2 Special attention is being directed i to the provisions of the Shops and b Offices Amendment Bill now before j Parliament. / Strong exception was taken to the principle involved in .section 6of the Tramways Bill, and representations are to be made to the Government protesting against the establishment of appeal boards as proposed. Efforts, are again to be made by overtures to the Government to have all breach of award cases taken by the Arbitration Coiirtinßtead of by the magistrates. This alteration, is desired on account of the _ varying decisions given by the magistrates in different parts of the Dominion, : •
