Wellington, April 18. The High Commissioner cables from London as follows : — The mutton market is weak; and stocks moderate, but holders are disposed to meet buyers. Average price Canterbury mutton is 4£d ; North Ifi T land 3jd ; River Plate, 3§d. The lamb market is weaker and the tendency is downward. Supplies are likely to increase. Average price Canterbury lamb is o£d; other New Zealand lamb sd. - The beef market is quiet and steady. Average price New Zealand hindquarters is 4d, forequarters 31d. The butter market is rather quiet. Continental supplies increasing. Buyers of butter are holding back expecting prices to lower. Average prices for the week: Choicest New Zealand butter 1225, Australian 118s, Argentine 119s, Danish 1255, Siberian 120s. The cheesei market is slightly weaker, with less demand. Average price New Zealand finest white cheese 61s, coloured 60s. The hemp market is firmer. Prices on spot New Zealand good-fair, £14 15s; fair, £13 15s. Manila fair current, £16; forward shipments Nev Zealand, £5 less than on spot; Manila, £14. The' week's output of hemp at Manila is 12,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is dull. Average price on spot bright clean 171 b New Zealand seed 695. The wool market remains firm. Fine crossbreds and. merinos are in great demand, but coarse crossbreds are weaker. Currant Bradford quotations for tops are-^36's low crossbreds, 2s 2d; 40' s low crossbreds Is 3d; 44' s me^ diuin crossbreds Is 4Jd; 50's halfbred Is BJd; 56's quarterbreds, Is lljd; 60s . merinos 2s 4Jd:
