TERRIBLE DISASTER IN
GERMANY. . BALLOON STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. EIGHT AERONAUTS KILLED. (Received April 18, 11.5 p.m.) Berlin, April 18, A balloon ascended at Bitterfield, Prussia, when lightning caused it to explode, tearing' the gasbag to ribbons. The villagers of Reicliensachsen hoard the crash, but thought it was lightning and slept til! morning, when they discovered the shattered car and four bodies. • "..'., The aeronauts had survived tne lightning, and all "their fists were clenched and their faces convulsed with horror, realising their impending death as the car plunged earthwards. / Eight- balloonists*. have been killed in Germany in a fortnight, besides Which many minor accidents have .occurred recently. • The existence of balloon clubs in every large town accounts for the large number of accidents. . N The Bitterfeld disaster has decided the Imperial Aero CCub to issue a code of precautions. i
