PERSONAL.
Mr Vc.rnon Rout, son of Mr William Ro-.it, has returned to Nelson after spending a fi^ni months' holiday in England y- the Continent. A great {jbrtion of his time was spent in traveling in tho company of his brother Charles,' who is studying medicine at the Edinburgh University. Mr Keut will probably commdnce the practice of his profession as a barrister and solicitor in Nelson.
A cable message from London says that Sir George Reid, High Commissioner for Australia, was banquetted by the Savage Club. Mr Herbert Gladstone, tho new Governor-General of South Africa, says a London message, is already fairly proficient in the Dutch language. He will sail for the Cape on the 30th instant. . A Melbourne cable states that Madame Calve opened her tour before a crowded house there with brilliant success.
