Thomas Craig murdered a man named Henderson at Gateshead, and wounded Mrs Heuderson, his former sweetheart, who was married while Craig was serving a sentence of seven years' imprisonment. Craig escaped, despite the fact that the murder was witnessed, and committed in a thickly populated district. He was eventually captured asleep in a hayloft with a loaded revolver in his pocket. After tramping for three weeks the police traced him through small thefts of food.
