A parade of the Nelson Rifles will bo held to-night. i . . A diver made an inspection of the sunken steamer Koi on Saturday, and upon his report the question of future salvage operations will be decided. The settlers and young men of the Motueka Valley district met on Wednesday fevening at Tapawera tb organise a Young Men'e Institute. Despite the inclement weather a good number gathered, and' the enthusiasm manifested augurs a .successful future for the institution. Mr G. Macmahon occu- 1 pied the chair/ Dr Hudson, was unanimously elected president of the institution, and Messrs G. Macmahon, Alec Drurrimohd, H. Innes Jones, Rutherford, and 0. Wilkinson, vicepresidents. A list of rules was drawn .up and the first meeting was arranged for the following Monday evening. It is hoped that, the institution will prove a benefit to the young men of .the district by employing their winter evenings to advantage and establishing a bond of friendship among them. Two donkeys grazing on the roadside at Wakapuaka on Friday afternoon were responsible for an accident to Mr and Mrs Isaac Harvey, who were returning home in a sulky. The donkeys crossed in front of the horse, which swerved twice sharply, overturning the sulky, and precipitating the ■ occupants on to the road. Both Mr and* Mrs Harvey received a very severe shaking, but no damage was done to the vehicle. The owners of the donkeys rendered every possible assistance. The advancement- of Stoke will be marked, on Friday evening :-ne{st by ihe opening of the new -public hall. There will, be a grand concert, for which a first-class, programme has been prepared, and this will be followed by a dance.
