Hokitika, April 13
At a special meeting of the- Hokitika Borough Council to-night it was roaolvlpd to take over the .Borough water works, which have just Jbeepi completed. The contractors were Messrs John McLean and Sons, of Wellington, who undertook to supply the town with 130 gallons of water per minute. The quantity is greater than that stipulated, Doing 160 gallons, with a pressure of llOlbs to the square inch. The water is conveyed from Lake Kanieri, a distance of about 12 miles from the town, by means of stave pipes. The cost of th© work, including the noceßsary reticulation, will amount to about £18,000.
