EPIDEMIC AT THE MENTAL HOSPITAL.
DEATHS FROM INFLUENZA
- An epidemic of influenza in tlie Mental Hospital has ueen responsible for no less than eight deaths within the past fortnight, the seventh occurring on Saturday evening, and tlie eighth yesterday. Mr J. a. Evans, S.M. and Coroner, added a rider to his verdict at the inquest heid on Sunday calling the attention of tho Health Department to the dangerous practice ot removing bodies from the Mental Hospital to the General Hospital, particularly in view of a virulent epidemic, aud urging the need of a morgue at the Mental Hospital.
It is common knowledge that an inquest is invariably held in the case of a death at the Mental Hospital, but ifc must come as a surprise to most to learn that in every case the body is conveyed to the morgue at the General Hospital preparatory -to the inouest. The Coroner has very properly called attention to the necessity for proper convenience being provided in -the grounds of" the Mental Hospital, and now that the matter has been ventilated the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board will no doubt take some action to support the Coroner's representations.
