IMPORTANT TO SCHOOL TEACHERS.
(Special to "Tho Colonist.")
Christchurch, April 10. A matter of importance to country school teachers who may he deterred from applying for vacant positions in. the town owing to the salary offered being less than they are in receipt ot in the position they hold, was mentioned at the meeting of the East Christchurch School Committeo on Imday night by the heamaster,« Mr S. IS. Owen. He remarked that if ft country teacher was receiving, say, £120 per annum, and a vacancy occurred m a town school/the salary attached to which was £90, the country teacher, it successful in obtaining the appointment, would receive the salary attached to the grade in which he or she was and would not be reduced to the amount of -salary offered in connection with the vacant position. This -is one of tlie provisions of the latest scale ol salaries for public school teachers. The East Christchurch School Committee, the members of which are believers in the appointment of country teachers to vacancies in the town, decided to recommend two country teachers to vacancies in the schools under their control.
