THE IMPRISONED NEWCASTLE LEADERS.
A NOVEL PROPOSAL

A novel proposal was made at a meeting of the Seaham Miners' Lodge, Newcastle, for the purpose of effecting the release of the imprisoned labour leaders. It was contained in the following notice of motion: "We, the members of the Miners' Federation, find that the severe mental strain incurred through the imprisonment of our leaders, . along with the arduous nature of our work, is having the effect of making us physically incapable of performing our work. Therefore be it hereby resolved that in order to safeguard our health we do not produce moro than a certain quantity of coal a day until the release of our leaders," Tlie originator of tlie notice said tbat all knew they had to work, but he proposed that no man should do more than sufficient to earn a fair strike pay.
