MOTUEKA VALLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL SHOW AT TAPAWEKA. The annual show of the Motueka Valley Horticultural Society was held in the Druids' Hall, Tapawera, on Easter Monday. There was a large attendance of the public, and the weather was all that could bo desired. The' exhibits were numerous* and of good quality, tlje display of apples being particularly good. Tho show was opened by Mr I. Rutherford, at 2.30 p.m., and during the afternoon Mr S. Bolton, the judge, gave some interesting and instructive- remarks on" the exhibits. In tho evening musical items were contributed by Misses Coleman, Wadsworth, and. Messrs R. Ellis, Tunnicliffe, and Bromell. The hall was crowded, and everything passed off well, except at the end of the evening, when two or three foolish young men who had been refreshing themselves not wisely but too well, created a little disturbance. The incident emphasised the fact that a constable is needed on this sido of Spooner's Range. There is none nearer than Wakefield, and it often takes a 1 full day to obtain bis services; the i district has outgrown the present est ablishment.
