SMART DETECTIVE WORK.
[United Press Association.] New Plymouth, March 28. A smart piece of police detective work was executed on Sunday night. During- that evening' a house occupied by Mr Stampoole was, burglariously entered during a half hour's absence of tlie owner, aud about £18 was stolen from a trunk, with a key taken from a pocket in the room. Then a bedroom in a neighbouring boardinghouse was entered, and some money was stolen from a pair of trousers which were under a pillow whereon a man was sleeping. Detective Boddam was aroused by .Constable O'Neill at midnight, and two hours later he had James Baldwin arrested, who was in bed in another boardinghouse. The booty was in his possession. 7,
