HISTORIC LETTERS SOLD.

Interesting and important letters of signers of tn© Declaration, of Independence brought high prices at auction in Philadelphia a few weeks ago. A long and tine folio letter from Francis Hopkinson, dated Philadelphia, September 4, 1786, to the President and Supreme Council of Pennsylvania, sold for $50, a four-page folio letter of Caesar Rodney, dated Philadelphia, October 9, 1775, giving an account of the arrest of Dr. John Kearsley, of that city, as an active Tory, and describing the treasonable contents of the letters he had written to- Lord Dartmouth and other Ministers brought $205. A letter of John Adams to Elbridge Gerry^two pages folio, Philadelphia, June 18, 1775, signed only with initials, but having reference to the apS ointment of George Washington as ommander-ia-Chief, sold for $47. A two-page letter of Samuel Adams to Elbridge Gerry, October. 29, 1772, in reference to acts which resulted in the American Revolution, fetched $54. A two-page folio letter of Elbridge Gerry, Philadelphia, March 31 1777, advocating the expulsion of Tories from ~ that city arid Soston, brought $50. A letter signed, but not written by Thomas McKean, dated Philadelphia, July '26, 1781, and addressed to General Nathaniel Greene, realised $28. A letter of John Hancock to Elbridge Gerry, about the treason of Dt Benjamin Church, sold for $32:50; a letter signed by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams, brought $53, and a letter writteai by Roßert Morris, while he was a prisoner in the Prune Street gaol in 1798, fetched $31.
