BAZAAR AND SALE OF WORK.

(From "The Colonist," Mar. 4.) " The bazaar and sale of work held at "Werneth," Mr John Oldham s line property at Wakapuaka, on Wednesday afternoon in aid ot theJund for building a vicarage in connection with St. Peter's Wakapuaka district Church, proved a great success in spite of the tact that the weather conditions were not all that could be desired, and that. tne function had been postponed tor a week. There was a good attendance ot Wakapuaka residents, aud all present appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. As a result s>t the bazaar a sum of £40 2s 8d was cleared, which must be highly gratifying to the promoters. In addition a lady donated £12 10s to the vicarage building fund, and promised to give a similar amount next year Two other donations were also received. The amount at present standing to the credit of tho fund is £122 13s 2d. A word of praise is due to the men who carried out the various competitions. The men s stall brought in £5 11s 2d, and the Sowers' Band £3 3s. It is gratifying to the promoters to see the young people of the district taking such an interest in church affairs, and thanks are due to them, and to the others, including the hou. secretary (Miss Oldham), who worked so thoroughly to ensure the success of the bazaar. Tho competitions resulted as follows: — Butter, Mrs Dodson; seed cake, Miss Oioham ; fruit cake, Miss Barnett; sponge sandwich, Mrs Dodson j button-hole, Mrs Dodson ; pot of ferns John Benning ; comic hat race (cycle) H. Hayton; parasol race, H. Hayton; stepping (ladies), Miss E. bkter: stepping (gentlemen), G. Dpdson and Biggar (tie) ; hat trimming (gentlemen), E. Hayton; ladies' coat race, Miss E. Barnett ; case making (ladies), Mrs Richmond; ladies' golt, Miss T. Coote; gentlemen, S. Wearing. The names of the stall holders were as follows ;— Ladies' Guild stall, Mrs G. Dodson and Miss Dodson; Sowers' Band ditto, Misses A. Livingstone, 'E. Barnett, and seven assistants; jumble stall, Misses Barnett and Austin and four assistants ; flower stall, Mrs Barnes and Miss Barnett; afternoon tea, Mesdames Dodson and Barnett and Miss Oldham. The competitions were m charge of Mr. A. Dodson and the married men of St. Peter's.
