MR. J. HOULT.

With deep regret I have also to record the death of Mr Joseph Hoult, another old and worthy settler at the age of 77. The late Mr Hoult' came out with his parents in the ship Prince of Wales in 1842, and settlea in this district immediately. Mr tiouio had many times in the early days journeyed to Nelson with a bullock team with loads of shingles and timber,- and was afterwards associated with his father and brothers in a sawmilling business there, being one of the first stea.ni sawmillers in the district. The late Mr Hoult was, twice married, and leaves a family of two sons living— Mr E. S. Hoult, Wai-iti, and Mr Charles Hoult who was at one time on the staff of Sclanders and Co. in Wanganiii, and is now residing ia Nelson, where he is in business as a surveyor. There ; s■: one daughter, now_dead, by this marriage, and fouT- sons" and two daughters by the second marriage. The deceased had been ailing for some considerable time, but had kept about right up to -the time of his death, which occurred somewhat suddenly this morning. .
