A MORGAN SCHEME FRU&- - TRATED* [Press Association— Copyright.] (Received Feb 21, 9.30 p.m.) Washington, Feb 21. Evidence given before a committc -j of the- United States Congress inquiring into the Alaskan mineral concessions, showed that Mr Pierpont Morgan, Senator Guggenheim and a.syndicate, arranged to buy half of the Cunningham coal claims for £50,000 from the Birch syndicate. The manager informed the committee- that the Cunningham mines would yield fifty million tons and the pro-it would be five million sterling. Tbe entire district would yield 500 million tons of the net value of 40 million. Under the present land laws the\whole would have passed into private pockets unless Mr Roosevelt had withdrawn Alaskan lands from sale pending legislation.
