CRICKET.

The Australian team will commence the second match of their tour at Auckland to-day against the local representatives.

W. Bardsley (N.S.W.) is on top of the batting averages of the players iv first-cass cricket this season, with an average of 46 for 10 innings. A. (J. Facy (Tasmania) has an average of 46.66 for four innings (one nob out), and is placed second, and W. W. Armstrong (Victoria)) is third with an average of 42.37 for eight innings. A. J. Hopkins (New South "Wales) heads the bowling averages with 3 wickets at a cost of 15.66 rims each. S. H. Emery (New South Wales) has taken the greatest number of wickets, 25, at a cost of 17.20 runs each, and W. W. Armstrong is next with 22 for 21.33 runs.

J. V. Saunders (Victoria) has been playing in representative cricket for the past ten years, and lias taken close upon 200 wickets in the games for the Sheffield shield — 101 against South Australia, at an average cost of 22.27, and 90 against^. New South Wales, at an average cost of 31.32 per wicket.

A youth named Arthur Chambers, aged 17, has done some remarkable performances in matches at Sydney. Li eight games lie has carried his bat through six innings, scoring over 500 runs. His bowling average is 65 wickets at a cost of 3.78 runs per wicket.
