MINERS AND THE WAGES BOARD
THE PRINCIPAL CLAIMS. [Pbess Association — Uopyiuoiit.] Sydney, Feb 17. The- main claims submitted to tho Wages Board on behalf of thet Colliery Employees' Federation are: — (a) That the selling price of coal shall regulate wages in all seams in the Newcastle and Maitland districts. (b) That when the selling price is 11s 9d the hewing rate shall be 3s lOd and that with every shilling rise in price there shall be 4d advance in hewing rate. The claims also involve proportionate advances in tops, bottoms and yardage rates. (c) That it bo optional for miners to do shift work. (d) That the minimum standard height of scam be sft, a penny a ton an inch to bo paid for every inch below that, in addition to hewing rates. (c) That night shift men be paid sixpence per ton additional to ordinary hewing. (f) That only one shift shall be worked for the purpose of drawing coal in 24 hours. (g) That eight hours from bank to bank constitute a working day for all employees. (h) That all coal failing to pass through fin mesh be paid for as round coal. Over a hundred summonses have been issued in connection with the recent Socialist procession in Sydney protesting against the sentences on strike leaders, the leaders of which have been already fined.
