To-day is the first anniversary of the wreck of the ill-fated steamer Penguin, on Tom's Rock, Cook Strait when 74 lives were lost. Miss J. M. A Hamilton wire states that a lad named John Winton Paull was arrested yesterday morning in connection with' the Mystery Creek Affair. It is alleged that, he was seen in the vicinity on horseback, and the gun found is said to correspond with one in his possession previously. A Cliristcliurch. wire reports that a Jarge number of spurious coins are in circulation in. Christchurch. One big hrm is reported to have been victimised to the extent of £13 in one day. The Tramway Board has also suffered to some extent. A bazaar will be held in Mr J.
