WORKS OF THE DEVIL.

A schoolboy, being asked to explain what is meant by "the devil and all his works," said he supposed it meant "the devil and his inside." This boy was, probably, the first person to whom it had occurred that the devil possessed an inside, though millions of sufferers have, no doubt, thought that their own insides were possessed by the devil. At any rate, when our "works" are out of order, we feel as though his black majesty had taken full charge. Especially is this the case when, as so commonly happens, something goes wrong with the kidneys and liver. Derangement of those vital organs is the cause of most of the suffering by which humanity is afflicted.
