A LABOUR DISPUTE.
THRESHING MILL HANDS KNOCK OFF WORK. [United Press Association.] Ashburton, Feb. 4. The hands employed on the threshing mills 'throughout: -the district are dissatisfied with their pay. Owing to the lightness of the grain, and the quantity of straw in the sheaf, they consider they should be paid so much per hour, instead of so much per bushel, as at present. They consider they should be paid Is 3d per hour. To-day the hands of a mill working in the Wakanui district made a demand for Is 3d per hour, and on being refused, tho men at once 'Stopped work, and the mill was left idle. As all the mill hands in the country are fairly united as to the demand, further developments are anticipated.
