Councillor Grace selected the subject of acoustics for a brief dissertation to the City Council last night. He noticed that; wires had been stretched across the ceiling of the chamber, but it was nevertheless exr ceedingly difficult to hear the remarks of ; the Mayor, while the voice of the Town Clerk was almost inaudible to 'him. This was probably due to the ceiling being in the form of a dome; it should be flat. An article ho had read in a periodical recently stated ..that/the idea that the acoustic Eroperties of a room were improved y jhanging wires across it near the ceiling was exploded, and a simple means of overcoming the difficulty was" suggested. Councillor Grace moved that the Works Committee taken into its consideration the matter of improving the acoustic properties of .the chamber.
